Highland's Cali Honeyman, Johnson County's Carlie Martin Sweep NJCAA D2 Volleyball Player of the Week Awards
CHARLOTTE, NC – Standout play last week from Highland Community College outside hitter Cali Honeyman and Johnson County Community College defensive specialist Carlie Martin has been recognized by the NJCAA, with the duo sweeping the first NJCAA Division 2 Volleyball Player of the Week awards in 2025.
Cali Honeyman (Highland) - NJCAA D2 Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week
Honeyman helped lead Highland to a 5-1 week last week, which included a 3-1 record at the Siouxland Invitational hosted by Western Iowa Tech Community College. Against NJCAA opponents, the Scotties went 4-1 with their lone loss coming to NJCAA D2 number nine-ranked Iowa Central Community College while earning wins over Southwestern Iowa CC, NJCAA D3 #3 Minnesota West Community & Technical College, Minnesota North-Rainy River, and North Iowa Area. For the week, Honeyman tallied 74 kills in 17 sets, averaging 4.35 kills per set and 14.8 kills per match with four of the five matches resulting in double-figure kills. The freshman added nine service aces for the week and two set assists as HCC is off to a 9-1 start this season.
Carlie Martin (Johnson County) – NJCAA D2 Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week
Sophomore libero Carlie Martin was a defensive force for Johnson County Community College on Friday, collecting 44 digs to help the Cavaliers post back-to-back 3-0 sweeps over number 15-ranked Des Moines Area Community College and Northeastern Oklahoma A&M at JCCC Gymnasium. Martin tallied 19 digs in the opening win over the Bears before capping the day with a season-high 25 digs against NEO A&M. The 25-dig effort ties for the sixth-best performance of her career. Through eight matches, Martin has recorded 137 total digs, which ranks eighth among all NJCAA Division 2 players this season.
