CHARLOTTE, NC – For the first time this season, the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference has the top-ranked team in the NJCAA Division 2 Women’s Soccer poll as Johnson County Community College has ascended to the top spot in the latest rankings released on Tuesday, October 14th.
Four teams from the KJCCC are ranked in this week’s Division 1 and Division 2 top 20 polls as all four teams hold new rankings from the prior week with shakeups occurring throughout both polls.
After being ranked number two in the Division 2 women’s soccer preseason poll as well as the first six polls of the regular season, Johnson County moves up to take over the top spot as the Cavaliers are the only NJCAA Division 2 women’s soccer team that has yet to be defeated or have a game end in a tie. JCCC is 15-0-0 this season with three matches remaining in the regular season and has won 11 of its 15 matches by shutout. Despite earning two wins last week, Kansas City Kansas fell one spot down to number 12 as the Blue Devils picked up a 2-0 win over Crowder College, followed by a 4-1 win at Allen.
The latest NJCAA Division 1 Women’s Soccer rankings also saw changes for KJCCC schools, with Cowley College dropping one spot down to number eight while Hutchinson moves from receiving votes back into the poll at number 18 with two weeks left in the regular season. The Tigers earned a 3-0 home win over Seward County before battling to a 2-2 road tie at Butler last week while the Blue Dragons picked up three wins, including the resumption of a suspended match from earlier in the year against Dodge City before finishing off a sweep of the Conquistadors two days later with a road win in Dodge City.
Teams will continue to contend for positioning and seeding for postseason play as conference play continues Wednesday with seven matches scheduled to take place. Another six matches are set for Saturday afternoon, with three of the four ranked teams facing road battles to close out the weekend.
