Neosho County Wrestling at North Iowa

Heading up to Mason City, Iowa to dual the #10 ranked team in the Nation shouldn't have had Neosho nervous being ranked 6th in the country, but when 4 of 7 Nationally ranked wrestlers were not in the line up, the Panthers had plenty of what ifs. All of that was put to ease though when several wrestlers stepped up in fill in roles and narrowly beat the stingy home crowd during their Pack the Stands promotion by a score of 27-23. The highest anticipated match of the night was #4 Cody Hogan of NIACC vs. #3 Donte' Butler of Neosho. Both wrestlers hail from Missouri, but it was Butler winning the Show Me State show down with a lightning fast fall at the 1:21 mark in the first period. Overall Neosho won 6 matches to 4, with both teams combining for 8 total bonus point matches out of 10 wrestled, including the first 5 matches in a row.

The team continued onto the 35th annual Dick Walker Invitational in Waverly, Iowa and finished 12th out of 15 teams. (11 of the teams there were NCAA DIII and the remaining 4 were NJCAA schools. Very tough tournament. We had 3 top 6 placings with Butler and Carney finishing 6th and Green taking 5th. With several starters out, Neosho Wrestlers were still able to combine for a 17-22 record on the day against some of the most elite teams in small college wrestling nation wide.
