Butler Women's Basketball Wins First KJCCC Title Since 2021, Earns Top Seed In Region 6 Tournament

COLBY, Kan. – For the sixth time under head coach Mike Helmer, the Butler Community College women’s basketball team has won the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Division 1 Women’s Basketball regular season title and has earned the number one overall seed in the NJCAA Region 6 Division 1 Plains District Tournament.
The Grizzlies finished the conference slate with a 23-1 overall record and ended the regular season with 20 straight victories dating back to December 6th, with their average margin of victory in conference by over 22 points per contest. The regular season conference crown was the first for BCC since 2021 when Butler last qualified for the NJCAA Division 1 Women’s Basketball National Tournament.
Following Butler was a tie for second between Dodge City and Hutchinson, with tiebreaker procedures giving the Conquistadors the number two seed and the Blue Dragons the number three seed. Both teams will have first-round byes, along with number four seed Coffeyville Community College, as the top four seeds in the Region 6 Tournament will begin their postseason on Tuesday, March 10th.
Earning home playoff games by virtue of finishing fifth through eighth in the final KJCCC D1 Women’s Basketball regular season standings, Seward County, Colby, Barton, and Garden City will all begin their postseasons on Saturday, March 7th when they host teams that finished ninth through 12th in the regular season standings. Matchups on Saturday include Seward County hosting Fort Hays Tech Northwest at 4 PM, Colby hosting Pratt at 1 PM, Barton hosting Cloud County at 5:30 PM, and Garden City hosting Cowley at 2 PM.
Quarterfinal round matchups will be announced following the conclusion of Saturday’s opening round games with the second-round set for March 10th on campus sites ahead of the semifinals and finals. Barton Community College and Fleske Fieldhouse is scheduled to host the semifinals and finals March 13-14 with the first semifinal taking place at 1 PM while the second semifinal will take place at 5:30 PM on Friday night. The 2026 NJCAA Region 6 Division 1 Women’s Basketball Tournament Championship game will take place the following day on Saturday, March 14th at 3 PM between the two semifinal winners.
The winner of the 2026 NJCAA Region 6 Division 1 Women’s Basketball Tournament will receive an automatic bid into the 2026 NJCAA Division 1 Women’s Basketball National Tournament with play scheduled for March 24- 31 on the campus of McNeese State University.
