KJCCC Division 2 Softball Players of the Week - Week 1
COLBY, Kan. – Helping Labette start the season 5-1 across their first week of the season, Cardinal infielder Grace Strecker and pitcher Maddalynn Romo have been named the first Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Division 2 Softball Players of the Week in 2026.
Grace Strecker - Labette (KJCCC Division 1 Softball Player of the Week)
Strecker played a big role in the leadoff spot for the Cardinals as Labette got off to a 5-1 start to their season last week. Hitting .368 and recording an on-base percentage of .478, Strecker was a menace on the base paths by stealing 14 bases and scoring 11 times despite recording just seven hits. The sophomore also added five runs driven in and had one extra-base hit while recording three multi-hit games.
Maddalynn Romo – Labette (KJCCC Division 1 Softball Pitcher of the Week)
Romo appeared in three games in the circle for Labette, helping the Cardinals to wins over Pratt and Northeastern Oklahoma A&M as part of a 5-1 week to start the 2026 campaign. Tossing complete games against the Beavers and Lady Norse, Romo struck out 18 across 12 innings pitched, which included a seven-strikeout shutout against Pratt in the season opener.
