COLBY, Kan. – For the second-straight season, the Cowley College men’s soccer team has claimed the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Division 1 Men's Soccer regular season crown and top overall seed in the upcoming NJCAA Region 6 Division 1 Men's Soccer.
Securing an outright conference title by finishing off a 4-1 win over Garden City on Tuesday in a match that was suspended on October 15th, the Tigers enter the postseason with an 11-1-1 overall record after finishing conference play with an 8-1-1 mark. The lone loss this season for Cowley came on October 18th in a 1-0 road loss to Barton Community College, as the Tigers outscored opponents by a score of 36-7 this season while earning seven wins by shutout. Leading the offense for Cowley is Kanta Ishii, who ranks second in the KJCCC in both goals (11), assists (6), and points (28) despite playing only 13 matches this season. Defensively, the Tigers saw goalkeeper Lukas Lowry record a league-best .867 save percentage and 0.48 goals-against average in 11:22:43 minutes played.
Coming up just short of a shared conference title was Barton Community College as the Cougars went 7-2-1 in the KJCCC as part of a 14-3-2 overall record to finish three points back of Cowley. Barton enters the postseason on an eight-match winning streak dating back to September 27th when they played to a 1-1 draw against Coffeyville, with their last loss coming at the hands of Cowley by a score of 2-1 on September 24th. Other teams to qualify for postseason play include three-seed Dodge City (14 points), four-seed Garden City (11 points), five-seed Coffeyville (11 points), and six-seed Seward County (one point). The Broncbusters held the tiebreaker over the Red Ravens by winning one of the two head-to-head matchups between the two teams to go along with a 1-1 draw in the other matchup as Garden City finished conference play with a 3-5-2 record while Coffeyville went 2-3-5.
The 2025 NJCAA Division 1 Men's Soccer Region 6 Tournament will begin on Saturday, November 1st as the single-elimination tournament will see all first-round games played at the higher seed among the two teams within the match. The remaining two opening-round matches will take place on Sunday, with Dodge City hosting Garden City to kick off the day in a 2 PM matchup while number two seed Barton will take on number five seed Coffeyville in a 5:30 PM matchup on the campus of Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas. Winning teams of the three opening round matches will advance to the Plains District Tournament, and will be joined by the winner of NJCAA Region 16, which is set to be decided on Saturday, November 1st.
The highest remaining NJCAA Region 6 seed will host the lowest remaining NJCAA Region 6 seed in one Plains District Tournament semifinal match, while the middle remaining Region 6 seed will host the winner of the NJCAA Region 16 (Crowder College or Jefferson College), with both matches scheduled to take place on Thursday, November 6th.
