Three KJCCC Men's Basketball Teams Ranked, Fourth Receiving Votes In NJCAA Week 12 Polls
NJCAA Division 1 Men’s Basketball Week 12 Poll | NJCAA Division 2 Men’s Basketball Week 12 Poll
CHARLOTTE, NC – With still three weeks remaining in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference men’s basketball regular season, three conference teams are ranked with a fourth receiving votes in the latest NJCAA Division 1 and Division 2 Men’s Basketball rankings released on Monday, February 9th.
All three ranked teams from the conference remain ranked despite two of the three suffering losses last week, as Johnson County was the lone ranked team from the league to get through last week unscathed. The Cavaliers finished off non-conference play with a ranked road win at North Central Missouri College on Tuesday night before taking down Highland Community College at home to improve to 24-0 this season while sitting 1.5 games ahead of the second-place team in the league (Fort Scott) with five conference games remaining.
Division 1 play continues to prove difficult for all 13 teams in the league as conference-leading Butler Community College dropped a 112-106 decision at home last week to Garden City in their lone game of the week, falling two spots to number 17 in the latest rankings. Dodge City also ended up on the wrong end of one of their two games last week, defeating Colby 80-71 on the road before returning home and being tripped up 98-86 by Coffeyville as the Conquistadors fell from number 20 down to number 24. In a change from previous weeks, Barton is back into a group of seven schools receiving votes this week and featured in the poll for the first time in five weeks after putting together wins at Hutchinson and at Pratt to improve to 16-8 overall and 11-7 in the KJCCC and still very much alive for a potential first-round bye in the NJCAA Region 6 Tournament.
Action will begin this week with a Monday night contest for Fort Hays Tech Northwest when the Tigers play host to Air Force Academy Prep before seeing a 10-game slate scheduled to take place on Wednesday evening. The top two teams in the KJCCC D1 standings will face off when Independence plays host to Butler, while Garden City will make the short trip south to Liberal to take on Seward County in two games that are expected to have key roles in the KJCCC standings moving forward. Saturday will feature nine more games as Butler and Dodge City will both be at home, while Johnson County and Barton will face road battles across the league’s action. The week will conclude on Sunday with a single tilt taking place in Northwest Kansas when Fort Hays Tech Northwest takes on Cowley in a game of two teams separated by just two games in the standings.
