Busy Week Of Conference Action Shifts KJCCC Teams Around Latest NJCAA Men's Basketball Rankings
NJCAA Division 1 Men’s Basketball Week 9 Poll | NJCAA Division 2 Men’s Basketball Week 9 Poll
CHARLOTTE, NC – A week of results filled with conference clashes throughout the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference has set up the newest NJCAA Men’s Basketball rankings which features five teams from the conference across the Division 1 and Division 2 polls.
Looking at the NJCAA Division 2 top 25 poll, Johnson County took care of business last week in wins at Highland followed by a home victory over Kansas City Kansas to improve to 18-0 to remain ranked number three in the latest rankings and sandwiched between a pair of NJCAA Region 11 schools (Des Moines Area CC, Ellsworth CC). JCCC won both of their games last week by double-digits, despite being held to a season-low 78 points in a 78-59 win over KCKCC in a rematch of last year’s NJCAA Region 6 Division 2 Men’s Basketball Tournament title game.
Things have gotten no more clear for KJCCC Division 1 schools in the standings at the midway point of the 24-game conference schedule for all 13 schools, with every team finishing the first 12 games of a home-and-home slate with at least three conference losses. Winning a battle of the top-two teams in the league to earn a one-game lead in the standings was Dodge City, as the Conquistadors make a six-spot jump up the standings to number 15 this week after defeating Independence 95-93 on the road and Seward County 79-77 at home in a pair of two-point wins last week. Seward County, which saw the loss to Dodge City come following an overtime road win at Cowley, made their way into the rankings for the first time this season by earning the number 19 ranking to move ahead of Butler Community College who is ranked number 25 this week. The Grizzlies fell on the road at Cloud County to open their week last week before bouncing back with a controlling 122-93 win at Colby to sit one game back of Dodge City in the standings and tied for second in the KJCCC at 8-4. Just outside of this week’s rankings and receiving votes is Coffeyville Community College after the Red Ravens dropped a 77-75 decision to Fort Hays Tech Northwest before earning a 90-82 home win over Garden City to end their week and improve to 13-5 overall.
With the schedule for Division 1 schools rolling over for the second round of games between each of the 13 schools, rematches begin to take place this Wednesday across the conference with all four ranked teams this week hosting games to start their week. The biggest matchup scheduled for Thursday will take place in El Dorado when Butler hosts Coffeyville for a 7:30 PM matchup ahead of a busy eight-game slate on Saturday that finds key battles take place between Coffeyville and Independence as well as Butler and Hutchinson. More action is scheduled for Sunday when two games are on the docket, with Seward County traveling to Colby and Dodge City traveling to Cowley for 3 PM games to finish the week out.
