Latest NJCAA Men's Basketball Rankings Set Up Key KJCCC Matchups In Week Ahead
NJCAA Division 1 Men’s Basketball Week 8 Poll | NJCAA Division 2 Men’s Basketball Week 8 Poll
CHARLOTTE, NC – With Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference play set to take place for all 20 conference schools this week, the NJCAA has released the week eight men’s basketball top 25 polls as five schools are featured in this week’s rankings.
Only one team from the conference holds the same ranking as the previous week, with results each week continuing to reshape the rankings after no single team has been able to make their case as the frontrunner from the league.
Winning a pair of top 10 battles last week to remain unbeaten at 16-0, Johnson County Community College holds steady at number in the NJCAA Division 2 men’s basketball rankings. The Cavaliers have won 11 of their 16 games by double-digits and are averaging 95.3 points per contest, the sixth-highest average in NJCAA Division 2.
Through 10 games of the 24-game KJCCC Division 1 men’s basketball conference schedule, a four-way tie for first place with two more teams one game back of first has created constant movement and shifts for the conference schools within the NJCAA top 25 poll. Ranked wins over Cowley and Dodge City last week have Butler back up to the highest-ranked KJCCC Division 1 team this week with the number 19 ranking, followed by Dodge City with the number 21 ranking. The Conquistadors picked up a 92-83 home win over Garden City before dropping a 121-119 overtime decision at Butler to limit their movement to only two spots in the poll. Dropping out of the poll this week but receiving votes is Coffeyville after the Red Ravens split road games last week with a loss at Hutchinson, followed by an overtime win at Pratt while Seward County picked up a 95-77 home win over Barton in their only game last week to get back into the list of teams receiving votes.
Another busy week of action has already gotten underway as Highland defeated Western Iowa Tech in overtime and Fort Scott defeated Metropolitan at home on Monday night ahead of a nine-game schedule set for Wednesday. A matchup between two of the teams tied for first in the KJCCC D1 standings will take place Wednesday night between Dodge City and Independence, while Butler and Seward County will both face road tests as part of the schedule. Also taking place Wednesday night is the start of KJCCC play for Division 2 schools, with Allen traveling to Kansas City Kansas, Johnson County traveling to Highland, and Neosho County heading to Labette. A single game Thursday night will take place when Fort Hays Tech Northwest takes on Coffeyville, followed by Highland playing at Mission University JV on Friday to set up a nine-game schedule on Saturday. Marquee games on Saturday included Seward County traveling to Dodge City at the Division 1 level while Kansas City Kansas will head to Johnson County for a cross-metro matchup at the Division 2 level.
