KJCCC D1 Men's Basketball Results Continue To Weekly Shakeups Within NJCAA Rankings
NJCAA Division 1 Men’s Basketball Week 5 Poll | NJCAA Division 2 Men’s Basketball Week 5 Poll
CHARLOTTE, NC – Weekly results from games played within the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference has yet again led to shifting among ranked teams from the conference with six teams ranked across the latest NJCAA Division 1 and Division 2 Men’s Basketball top 25 polls released on Monday, December 8th.
Among the six teams that are ranked this week, two newcomers are joined by three of the remaining four teams that hold new rankings this week as the lone KJCCC team to keep their ranking from the week four poll is Johnson County in the Division 2 rankings. In the latest NJCAA Division 2 top 25, the Cavaliers are ranked number three for a second-straight week after earning a 103-55 win over Baker University JV on Friday night in their lone action of the week ahead of two more games this week to close out their pre-Christmas schedule.
In a season that has seen three weeks of the 24-game KJCCC D1 men’s basketball scheduling gauntlet already take place, there is still no clear-cut favorite within the league as Cowley has found their way back to the highest-ranked KJCCC team following double-digit point victories over Coffeyville and Hutchinson last week to be ranked number 16 this week. Just two spots back of the Tigers is Butler Community College as the Grizzlies have made their way into the rankings for the first time this season after receiving votes in multiple polls this year by holding the number 18 ranking. BCC went on the road last week and earned a 131-107 in their only action of the week, having eclipsed the 130-point mark in each of their past two games while averaging 108.5 points per contest through 11 games (second-best in the NJCAA). Going another two spots back of Butler, Barton is ranked number 20 this week following a five-spot drop after suffering a one-point home loss to Hutchinson on a buzzer-beating three before bouncing back with a home win over Pratt to improve to 9-3 overall. Adding to the chaos is Dodge City who is ranked for the first time this season by checking in at number 21 with an 8-3 start to the season with three wins over currently ranked teams and two of their three losses also coming to ranked foes. The Conquistadors defeated Colby before going on to win at Coffeyville last week, as the Red Ravens fell from number 10 down to number 22 after suffering defeats to Cowley and Dodge City last week.
With no frontrunner currently in place in the D1 standings, the final week of conference play before Christmas is slated to play a key role in building momentum for teams as 21 games are scheduled this week across the league. A soft launch to the week will see KCKCC travel to Western Iowa Tech on Monday night before seeing four more KJCCC D2 teams in action along with Barton traveling to Fort Hays Tech Northwest on Tuesday before a five-game slate on Wednesday which includes a battle between the two of the top two teams in the KJCCC D1 standings when Butler hosts Independence in El Dorado. Another game that could potentially shake up the rankings on Wednesday night is Dodge City playing host to Hutchinson before seeing Saturday’s action highlighted by Garden City traveling to Great Bend to take on Barton. In total, nine games are scheduled for Saturday afternoon before one final game between Marshalltown and Kansas City Kansas next Monday to close out December’s action across the league.
