Men's Basketball Puts Two Teams In Top-Five Of Latest NJCAA Rankings
NJCAA Division 1 Men’s Basketball Week 2 Poll | NJCAA Division 2 Men’s Basketball Week 2 Poll
CHARLOTTE, NC – For the first time this season, the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference has men’s basketball teams ranked inside the top five of the NJCAA Division 1 and Division 2 Men’s Basketball Top 25 polls following ranking changes for both Coffeyville and Johnson County as part of this week’s polls.
After starting the season ranked inside the top-10 of their respective polls, both the Red Ravens and Cavaliers have turned in unbeaten records of 5-0 and 7-0 which has allowed Coffeyville to move up five spots in this week’s NJCAA Division 1 top-25 poll up to number three while Johnson County made a one-spot move up the NJCAA Division 2 top-25 to be ranked number five this week.
Joining Coffeyville in the top 10 of the latest Division 1 rankings is number 10 Cowley, following a 5-0 start for the Tigers ahead of their non-conference finale on Tuesday night against Murray State College, before starting KJCCC play on Saturday. Barton Community College is also ranked in the latest NJCAA D1 poll, holding steady at number 17 following wins last week over State Fair, Northern Oklahoma-Enid, and Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa to finish non-conference play 5-1 ahead of their conference opener at home against Dodge City on Wednesday night.
No other conference teams are ranked inside the latest NJCAA Division 2 top 25 poll, while both Allen Community College and Highland Community College are receiving votes and sit just outside the rankings. The Red Devils are 5-2 this season with their only losses coming to NJCAA D1 opponents Connors State and Seminole State College while the Scotties picked up a 66-49 road win at Western Iowa Tech last Wednesday in their only action of the week to improve to 5-0.
The 24-game KJCCC conference gauntlet begins on Wednesday night for 12 of the 13 D1 schools as teams will see both pressure and intensity ramp up with games against teams that they will play twice this year. Highlighting Wednesday night’s conference-opening slate are matchups between Butler and Coffeyville in Coffeyville, Dodge City traveling to number 17 Barton, and Hutchinson hosting Garden City in a matchup between style differences, as the Broncbusters are led by former Blue Dragon coach Tommy DeSalme and averaging 113.5 points per contest while HCC is allowing the fourth-fewest points per team in the league at 67.7 points per game allowed. D2 play will also continue this week, with 15 games taking place for KJCCC schools which includes multiple games against ranked foes.
