Johnson County, Cloud County, Ranked 1-2 In Final NJCAA Division 1 Baseball Poll Of Regular Season
NJCAA Division 1 Baseball Week 11 Poll
CHARLOTTE, NC – Incremental movements up the 11th and final NJCAA Division 1 Baseball Top 25 poll of the regular season has three Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference baseball teams holding down rankings ahead of the start of postseason play following the release of the poll on Monday, May 4th.
Both teams that moved up spots in the latest top 25 poll were the only ranked conference teams that could make movements up the rankings from the league, as Johnson County capped off a historic 32-0 record in the KJCCC East Division with a four-game sweep of Fort Scott Community College last week to become just the second KJCCC team to ever go undefeated in KJCCC play. The Cavaliers remained the unanimous top-ranked team in the poll and joined the 1998 Cowley College baseball team as the only teams to ever go undefeated in KJCCC play.
Meanwhile, Cloud County put the finishing touches on their first KJCCC West Division baseball regular season title in program history by sweeping a four-game series from Seward County Community College to finish the KJCCC West Division slate 28-4 after winning all eight conference series, which included four of the eight by virtue of four-game sweeps. The T-Birds moved up one spot in the national rankings to number two and will carry a 47-5 overall record into postseason play. Also moving up one spot in the rankings was Hutchinson as the Blue Dragons moved up to number 22 in the rankings after taking three of four games from Garden City Community College to close out the regular season. HCC finished the regular season with a 43-13 record and 25-7 mark in the KJCCC West Division to finish second in the division standings.
Up next for 16 KJCCC baseball teams is the start of the 2026 NJCAA Division 1 Baseball Plains District Tournament, which starts on campus sites of the top four finishing teams in the KJCCC East and West Divisions for best-of-three series against teams who finished fifth through eighth in their respective division. In the KJCCC East Division, Johnson County, Kansas City Kansas, Cowley, and Fort Scott will host Garden City, Colby, Dodge City, and Barton, respectively, while the West Division hosts are Cloud County, Hutchinson, Butler, and Seward County. The T-Birds will host Highland, while Hutchinson will host Allen, Butler will host Neosho County, and Seward County will host Coffeyville. All eight best-of-three series will begin on Thursday with a single, nine-inning game taking place Thursday, Friday, and Saturday (if necessary), with the eight advancing teams set to play in an eight-team double-elimination tournament at Eck Stadium on the campus of Wichita State University beginning May 13th.
