NJCAA Division 1 Baseball Week 6 Poll
CHARLOTTE, NC – Continuing their reigns atop the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference East and West Division baseball standings, Johnson County Community College, Cloud County Community College, and Hutchinson Community College all managed to hold steady inside the latest NJCAA Division 1 Baseball Top 25 poll released on Monday, March 30th.
With conference play nearing the halfway mark with just over a month remaining in the regular season poll, the Cavaliers are now the only KJCCC team of the 18 that sponsor baseball to hold an unbeaten record in conference games after extending their overall winning streak to 18 consecutive games.
The unanimously ranked number one team in the latest poll, JCCC added to its winning streak by outscoring Neosho County 69-3 across last weekend’s four-game series as the Cavaliers saw just one game go its scheduled length while putting up 28 runs and 20 runs in a pair of shutout wins in the series. The Cavaliers are now 34-2 overall this season and are outscoring conference opponents 240-42 with at least eight runs scored in all 16 conference games. Cloud County added another conference series win over the weekend, taking three of four games from Dodge City to improve to 29-3 overall and maintain their number four ranking in the latest rankings while holding a 14-2 record in conference play. After dropping their first conference game of the season, Hutchinson responded by taking the final three games of its series against Butler last week and is ranked number 12 this week after suffering their first loss this season by multiple runs in a 13-11 defeat to the Grizzlies.
Non-conference action will take place on Tuesday for seven conference schools to close out the month of March, with number 12 Hutchinson hosting Cowley in the only cross-division matchup of the day, while five other conference schools will take on foes from outside the Sunflower State. Play is then scheduled to resume on Thursday with nine doubleheaders taking place throughout the day, including a battle between number four Cloud County and number 12 Hutchinson to kick off a four-game series in KJCCC West play between the top two teams in the standings. Johnson County, meanwhile, will begin a four-game series on Thursday at Allen Community College while Highland and Butler will meet up in El Dorado for a doubleheader as the two teams on division byes this week. The Scotties and Grizzlies will finish up a four-game series on Friday before seeing all eight conference series finish up Saturday afternoon with action beginning at 1 PM at all eight home sites.
