KJCCC Baseball West Division Players of the Week - Week 11
COLBY, Kan. – Sweeping a four-game series over Butler Community College to take control of the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Baseball West Division standings, the Cloud County Community College baseball team was led last week by the week 11 KJCCC Baseball West Division Players of the Week Simon Baker and Cohen Nelson.
Simon Baker – Cloud County (KJCCC Baseball West Division Player of the Week)
Cloud County redshirt freshman Simon Baker batted .688 for the T-Birds, guiding them to a 5-0 week with wins over Cowley College and Butler Community College. Baker went 11-of-16 at the plate with eight extra-base hits while driving in 13. Hitting four home runs in the team's KJCCC sweep over Butler, Baker also tallied three triples and finished the week with a 1.875 slugging percentage and a .783 on-base percentage. Baker, who also started his first games as a starting outfielder last week, is hitting .421 on the season and leads the 37-4 T-Birds with 16 home runs and eight triples.
Cohen Nelson – Cloud County (KJCCC Baseball West Division Pitcher of the Week)
Cloud County sophomore Cohen Nelson moved to 3-0 on the season after leading the T-Birds to an 8-1 win over Butler Community College in KJCCC play on April 11. For the third straight start, Nelson limited a KJCCC opponent to one run and matched a season-high and career-high with 11 strikeouts for the second consecutive outing. Nelson, returning from an early-season injury, is third on the Cloud County pitching staff with 40 strikeouts in just 21.0 innings pitched. He has a team-leading 1.29 ERA and is holding opposing hitters to a .116 batting average.
