Johnson County Named #1 Seed For NJCAA D1 Baseball JUCO World Series

CHARLOTTE, NC – Winners of four-straight elimination games to secure their fourth-straight trip to the NJCAA Division 1 Baseball JUCO World Series, the Johnson County Community College baseball team has been named the number one overall seed for the upcoming 10-team tournament at Sam Suplizio Field in Grand Junction, Colorado.
The Tournament, which is scheduled to begin on Saturday, May 23rd, will see the Cavaliers play in the second game of the tournament against number 10 seed Harford Community College in a first-round game on day one of the tournament. Other opening round matchups for the World Series include number four seed Walters State taking on number seven seed Seminole State (OK), number two seed Blinn College taking on reigning National Champions and number nine seed Salt Lake Community College, number three-seed Midland College taking on number eight seed Wabash Valley College, and number five-seed Louisiana State University-Eunice taking on number six-seed Miami Dade College.
Johnson County was the number four overall seed in the World Series last year, going 1-2 last season with a 14-7 loss to McLennan Community College before bouncing back with a 14-13 win over Eastern Oklahoma State. The Cavaliers saw their run end the next day with a 10-4 defeat to Blinn College, ending their fifth trip in program history to the World Series.
Entering their opening game in Grand Junction, Johnson County is 62-3 overall and leads NJCAA Division 1 baseball in runs (813), hits (807), home runs (204), RBI (769), extra-base hits (392), total bases (1,645), and slugging percentage (.801), the Cavaliers also rank in the top five in pitching ERA (4.37), batting average against (.242) and shutouts (9). JCCC is the first college baseball team (all collegiate levels) to hit over 200 home runs as a team, with freshman Ryan Bradford setting the NJCAA baseball single-season home run record with 41 home runs this season in 64 total games, while also ranking in the top-five of NJCAA Division 1 baseball in hits (110) and RBI (111). JCCC has three of the top five players in NJCAA Division 1 baseball in RBI this season, with Bradford being joined by teammates Logan Groh (109) and Colin Coonradt (102).
Harford is making their first trip to the NJCAA Division 1 Baseball JUCO World Series since 2022 and their third in program history, holding an all-time World Series record of 2-4 in Grand Junction. The winners of the NJCAA Division 1 Baseball East District Tournament, by taking two games of a three-game series with Florence-Darlington Tech, the Fighting Owls are 54-6 overall this season and rank fourth in NJCAA Division 1 Baseball in RBI (648), fifth in runs scored (711), and seventh in both hits (694) and extra-base hits (288). Defensively, HCC has a team ERA of 4.97, which ranks 21st, and is holding opponents to a .243 batting average against.
The winner of Saturday’s Johnson County/Harford game will face off with the winner of game one of the tournament between number four seed Walters State and number seven seed Seminole State.
