KJCCC West Player of the Week: Cameron Catwright– Seward County Community College
Seward County baseball is on a 4-game win streak stemming from a sweep over conference foe, Colby Community College during the week ending in 4/17/2023. Cameron Cartwright played a big part in the sweep over Colby with 5 homeruns on day one of the series and added another one on Sunday, April 16th. Cartwright drove in 11 runs on the week while crossing the plate 11 times himself and accounting for 22 of the 48 runs scored on the series with those 11 scored and 11 driven in. Cartwright not only hit for power throughout the week but hit for average too, recording 3 multi-hit games with 5 hits coming in game one of the series. Cartwright's final numbers were an average of .555, 6 homeruns, 11 RBIs, 11 runs scored, 2 SB, .619 OBP, and an OPS of 2.175. Cartwright's clutch week-long performance led Seward County to 4 straight wins and set them up in prime position to push to host a home playoff game in the coming weeks.
KJCCC West Pitcher of the Week: Phil Brennaman – Cloud County Community College
Phil Brennaman was electric in game two of a four-game series with Garden City by throwing 86 pitches in a 6-inning outing to help lead Cloud County to a 15-1 win to cap off a doubleheader sweep of the Broncbusters. After allowing a solo home run to the second batter of the game, Brennaman would settle in and retire the final 17 batters he faced which included eight strikeouts during the streak to finish with a career-high nine strikeouts. Of the final 17 batters he faced, just three balls would leave the infield as the Gladstone, Missouri native ran his record on the year to a perfect 4-0.
