KJCCC Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, Wk. 5
Johnson County sophomore infielder Brady Slavens batted .636 (7-for-11) with two doubles, four home runs, seven runs scored and 15 driven in over in four victories last week for the No. 12-ranked Cavaliers. He has hit a home run in five straight games. For the season, Slavens is batting .516 and leads the conference and NJCAA with 12 home runs and 43 RBI.
Johnson County freshman right-hander Drew Garrett did not allow a hit or a run in six innings on the bump and struck out 15 batters in a 10-0 shutout over Kirkwood. His 15 strikeouts tie the third-best game in program history. For the season, Garrett is 4-0 with 50 strikeouts and an ERA of 0.00. He has only allowed one hit all season and his hitless innings streak has now reached 18.1.
