Dodge City Wins Region VI Title
WICHITA, Kansas: DC3 baseball continue to make history this week, this time as the first team in Dodge City baseball program history to garner a NJCAA Region VI Championship title and a berth in the NJCAA World Series.
Sophomore right-hander Luke Crabb pitched a nine-inning gem to lead the Conqs to a 7-1 victory over nationally ranked #1 Cowley College at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium in Wichita, Kansas on Tuesday night. He put down eight and gave up only one run after 145 pitches and 35 batters faced.
The game was quiet until the third when DC3 broke things open, starting with a huge single to left field on a full count by catcher Tim Wakefield. Johnny Balsamo then singled to center on a full count and Frankie Valle loaded the bases after reaching on a fielding error by the shortstop.
The always reliable and dominant Leno Ramirez then laced a triple down the right field line to clear the bases. Then after a smart pitching change by the Cowley Tigers, Josh Williams stepped up big and dropped a two-run bomb past the left field fence to extend the Conq lead to 5-0.
The Conqs followed up in the fourth inning with two more runs, extending their lead to seven.
Cowley worked for one run in the bottom of the sixth inning, but Crabb, along with a more than impressive DC3 defense put the Tigers under, sending them to Grand Junction and their first-ever berth in the NJCAA World Series.
In the game, Ramirez led the team with three RBIs on a 2-5 performance at the plate and Williams followed up with a 2-4 performance with two RBIs on the day.
The World Series begins on May 23, 2015 at Sam Suplizio Field in Grand Junction, Colorado. Stay tuned to www.goconqs.com for all Conqs' Baseball World Series information! Also, follow the Conqs on Facebook at Dodge City Community College Conquistador Athletics and on Twitter @goconqs.
